City of Ely Allotments & Gardens Association

The City of Ely Allotments Association is run by volunteers on behalf of the City of Ely Council. Our aim is to provide allotment gardens for rent to the residents of Ely and surrounding areas.

The City of Ely has been twinned with Denmark’s oldest town – Ribe in Jutland – since 1956. A special tapestry was commissioned in 2004 to celebrate 50 years of the partnership.

The Hive Leisure Centre at Ely Leisure Village is the ultimate fitness and wellness destination offering a range of activities.

Ely Cathedral

The iconic cathedral in the centre of Ely has been a focus of Christian worship in the area since the 11th Century, and was built upon the site of an Anglo-Saxon abbey, founded in 672 AD by St Etheldreda.

Ely Museum

This award-winning local history museum explores the impact of the landscape of the fens on the lives of the people who have lived in them. Housed in the former Bishop of Ely’s Gaol, displays range from prehistoric hand axes and Anglo Saxon treasures to local trades and wartime letters. Discover the region’s unique history, dress up, handle artefacts and hear the spooky fen folk tales.

 

The Paradise Centre

The Paradise Centre offers a range of activities including fitness classes, children’s party activities and the Palms Fitness Centre.

Shop Mobility

Ely Museum operates the Shop Mobility scheme on behalf of the City of Ely Council. The scheme operates Thursday to Saturday. Please call the museum on 01353 666655 for further details and to book.

City of Ely Netball Club

Ely Netball Club welcomes people of all ages and abilities. It is a welcoming club who offer the opportunity to play competitive netball within three teams, all of whom compete in the Cambridge and District Netball League.

City of Ely Cricket Club

The Paradise ground has played host to cricket in the area since 1856, and the City of Ely Cricket Club continues to run three adult league teams on weekends, as well as a midweek team, and offer a variety of squads for children in school year 4 and above.

Oliver Cromwell’s House

Once Lord Protector of England, Oliver Cromwell lived in Ely for 10 years. A popular tourist attraction, Cromwell’s House has been recreated to depict what life would have been like in the 17th Century.

Needham’s Foundation

Needham’s Foundation is a Charitable Trust registered with the Charity Commission, the purpose of which is to provide financial assistance for the advancement of education, to schools and individuals in the City of Ely.  The link gives a brief history of the Charity and an application form for individuals, who meet the criteria  to apply for a grant.
