It has been announced that the historic Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge, first raced in 1829, will be held on the River Great Ouse at Ely in April 2021. It will be the 166th Men’s race and the 75th Women’s race. Covid restrictions has made planning the London event very challenging so it has been agreed, following consultation, that the world famous race, will once again come to Ely.
The Men’s race had previously been held in Ely in 1944 when it wasn’t possible to hold the event in London. The course stretched for one and a half miles over the River Great Ouse in Ely and was the only time the race had not been held on the Thames in its 150 year history.
