Richard is a third generation City Councillor and was first elected in 1993, serving Ely West Ward. Richard now represents Ely East, both as a City and District Councillor having also served on the District Council since 1997.
At the Annual Council Meeting, 15th May 2017, Richard was elected as Mayor to the city for the fourth time and is Chair to the Council. He currently represents the Council on Needhams Foundation and attends all Council meetings in his capacity as Mayor.
Richard is married to Pat, the Mayoress. They are both retired, enjoying family life with their two sons and their ever-growing number of grandchildren. Richard looks for a sustainable growth in the city, whilst retaining its character of the City of the Fens.
