Ian has been a member of the City of Ely Council since May 2014 and served as Chair to the Council and Mayor of the City from 2016 to May 2017. Ian has sat on most of the Council’s committees and working groups over the years and represented the Council on a number of external bodies. He currently serves on the Planning and Climate Change & Environment Committee and the Sessions House Phase II, CCTV and Strategic Plan Working Groups.
Ian is a retired physician who served in the RAF Medical Branch for nearly thirty years, followed by ten years in private occupational health medicine. He was born in Cambridge and has lived in Ely with his wife Suzanne, for over 20 years. His three children were boarders at Kings School whilst he was in the RAF, so Ely has always been central to his family life. He is a keen sportsman, playing tennis and real tennis regularly and has interests in travel, antiques and reading.
Ian has always believed in service to the community and has had roles in various charitable organisations. Currently, he is a Director of Newmarket Real Tennis Club, a trustee of St Peter’s Church in Ely, a trustee of the charity Pos+Ability and Vice President of the Ely branch of the RAF Association.
Ian has always believed in trying to leave things better than when he found them.
