Ian has been on the City Council since May 2014 and served as Chair to the Council and Mayor of the City of Ely for 2016/2017 . Ian sits on the Personnel, Finance & Governance Committee, the Christmas Lights Committee and the Planning Committee and the Sessions House and Communications & PR working groups. Ian also represents the Council for the Paradise Centre and the East Cambridgeshire Access Group.
Ian is a retired physician who served in the RAF Medical Branch for nearly thirty years, followed by ten years in private occupational health medicine. He was born in Cambridge and has lived in Ely for 16 years. His three children were boarders at Kings School whilst he was in the RAF, so Ely has always been central to his family life. He is a keen sportsman, playing tennis and real tennis regularly and has interests in travel, antiques and reading.
Ian has always believed in service to the community and has had roles in various organisations. He is Secretary of Ely Tennis Club, Director and Secretary of Ely Outdoors Sports Association and a Director of Newmarket Real Tennis Club. Ian is also a Trustee of St Peter’s Church Ely and Vice President of the Ely Branch of the RAF Association.
Ian has always believed in trying to leave things better than when he found them.
