Dear Parishioner

As we are now beginning our second lockdown, I wanted to reassure you that the City of Ely Council are continuing to provide essential services to the City.  Unfortunately, due to the Government’s restrictions we have had to close the Maltings and Oliver Cromwell’s House.  However, we will re-open on the 2 December when the lockdown is eased.  We look forward to welcoming you all back to these two wonderful venues.  The newly opened café at the Maltings, will recommence after the Christmas pantomimes have been enjoyed by all.  Oliver Cromwell’s House will continue to work behind the scenes to bring you more wonderful tours and events in the House and around our great City.

All play areas remain open and our Estates Team will continue to ensure all our services are undertaken to the usual high standard and all are safe to use.  They will ensure the erection of the Christmas Lights is completed, so this can be enjoyed by everyone who visits the City.

We have had some issues with the Council’s website, but these are now resolved.  We appreciated your patience with us on this matter.  You can keep yourself informed through the Council’s website and Facebook pages.

If you should need to speak to an officer of the Council, or have any concerns please email

We send best wishes to all our parishioners over the next four weeks.  We are sure that as before, the community will rally and support the less fortunate or more vulnerable parishioners and continue the wonderful community spirit that has emerged within the City and East Cambridgeshire, since the pandemic restrictions commenced in March.

Stay safe.

Cllr Sue Austen

The Right Worshipful Mayor of the City of Ely
